Education Committee
Term:
- Three-year, staggered terms with no more than two consecutive years. Three is the minimum number of members.
Clerk's Responsibilities:
- Understand and be able to implement Quaker process.
- Serve as primary contact person for committee.
- Schedule meetings and ensure that meetings take place.
- Ensure that an agenda for committee meetings is organized.
- Ensure a report is generated to be presented to the Meeting for Business.
- Ensure that committee meeting minutes and notes, which may include background discussions, concerns, planning, proposals, actions and possibly confidential material, be written and kept as an organized file.
- Ensure that action items that arise during committee meetings are assigned.
- Arrange for the new committee’s first meeting and at that meeting ensure that the committee chooses its clerk, unless the clerk has been specified by the Nominating Committee.
Committee's Responsibilities:
- Develop the religious education program for the First Day School and for adult education.
- Plan and implement curriculum for First Day School, and as needed or with the help of other teachers, for the adult education program. The committee is encouraged to utilize the talents of the entire meeting, members and attenders alike in their search for teachers. Arrange for special activities for First Day School.
- Obtain and make available various educational materials. Oversee
the young people’s library and work with the Librarian to obtain any literature that would be of value for the library. - Meet with Ministry and Oversight Committee on an annual basis to discuss religious education of the Meeting.
- Work with Peace and Social Concerns Committee to enable Meeting members, attenders, and youth to become involved in peace efforts or other social concerns.
- Familiarize newcomers and youth with Quaker organizations, structure, process and local meeting.
- Make regular (at least quarterly), preferably written, reports to the Meeting for Worship for Business.
- Plan and prepare readings for the first Sunday Meeting for Worship.
- Ensure a smooth transition and transfer of information to the new committee members.
