Peace and Social Concerns Committee
Term:
- Three-year, staggered term with a maximum of two consecutive terms. Three is the minimum of three members.
Clerk's Responsibilities:
- Understand and be able to implement Quaker process.
- Serve as primary contact person for committee.
- Schedule meetings and ensure that meetings take place.
- Ensure that an agenda for committee meetings is organized.
- Ensure a report is generated to be presented to the Meeting for Business.
- Ensure that committee meeting minutes and notes, which may include background discussions, concerns, planning, proposals, actions and possibly confidential material, be written and kept as an organized file.
- Ensure that action items that arise during committee meetings are assigned.
- Arrange for the new committee’s first meeting and at that meeting ensure that the committee chooses its clerk, unless the clerk has been specified by the Nominating Committee.
Committee's Responsibilities:
- Inform and guide the Meeting to put into action the Quaker faith.
- Keep the Meeting informed about ways to affect positive social change.
- Recruit members and attenders for external volunteer projects.
- Work with First Day School Committee to involve youth in activities or provide materials related to peace efforts and other social concerns.
- Act as liaison/participant with external groups involved in social change.
- Assist the Treasurer in recommending contributions, in the name of the Meeting, to organizations which reflect the Quaker faith.
- Organize, announce, and conduct regular letter-writing campaigns (in conjunction with FCNL or other organizational representatives).
- Have available information about conscientious objection to military registration and the draft and help arrange counseling, if desired.
- Make regular, written reports to the Meeting for Worship for Business.
- Ensure a smooth transition and transfer of information to new committee members.
